Triphala Amalaki – Emblica officinalis, Bibhitaki – Beleric myrobalan, Haritaki – Chebulic myrobalan

Triphala: is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy combining Amlalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki fruits. Triphala literally translates as ‘three fruits’. Amalaki fruits are likened to gooseberries and are produced from small trees that are native throughout India. The fruits are a naturally high source of Vitamin C with polyphenols and have a characteristically sour and bitter taste.

The Bibhitaki fruits are small and dry fruits produced by large trees common in India and Sri Lanka. The taste of these fruits is incredibly astringent and drying and they are believed to be ‘fearless’ of all diseases!

Haritaki fruits vary greatly in size and colour depending upon the region in which they grow but they are native throughout India. The fruits are described as being the ‘remover of diseases’ and Lord Shiva consequently exalted this plant to a sacred status.
